In 2015, Dick Robinson is celebrating three milestones in the broadcasting industry: the one-year anniversary as Owner/Curator of Palm Beach County’s WLML Legends 100.3 FM; sixty-one years as a radio/TV broadcaster; and fifty-one years as Founder/Chairman of Connecticut School of Broadcasting. Dick Robinson was bitten by the “bug of broadcasting” in his teens and is still going strong in the radio and TV industry at age 76.

Dick’s love for radio (and TV) broadcasting blossomed into yet another commercial radio station— Legends 100.3 FM. This station airs, exclusively, music of the Great American Songbook. The station’s website, legendsradio.com, provides, worldwide, 24 hours per day, seven days a week of what Dick calls “the greatest music ever recorded.” In less than a year, Legends 100.3 FM has become one of the most prominent FMs in South Florida, and, in fact, it is one of the only radio stations in the nation that carries this format.

Legends 100.3 FM is home to music of the Great American Songbook which has witnessed a rebirth of these timeless “standards.” Now it seems nearly everyone is singing the Great American Songbook — from duets by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga; Barbra Streisand singing with Stevie Wonder, Michael Bublé, and even Elvis Presley; Bette Midler takes the “Girl Group” approach, remembering the songs of the DeCastro Sisters, the Boswells and Andrews’ Sisters; Barry Manilow uniquely duets with legends of the past—Marilyn Monroe, Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Durante and Judy Garland; Bob Dylan even released a new album on Feb. 3 called “Shadows in the Night” with ten songs made famous by Sinatra. Other GAS notables include: Aretha Franklin singing Barbra Streisand’s “People;” Ann Hampton Callaway paying tribute to Sarah Vaughan and Jack Jones’ new music “Live in Liverpool” (“both are true masterpieces,” says Robinson); and local artist, Deborah Silver, collaborating with Steve Tyrell.
